At Nova Luna Center,
each resident is treated by a team of professionals, including a psychiatric
and primary care provider, psychologist, registered dietitian, registered
nurse and masters-level therapist.
Using
this team approach, we offer the following clinical services:
Intensive
Outpatient Program
Outpatient
services are generally available and provided for on a case by
case basis. The diversity of the above described programs allows
for clients to receive services that meet their individual needs.
The residents may flow through a continuum of care ranging from
the most restrictive to a less restrictive environment. This allows
the individual to grow in a familiar supportive environment and
to change structure based on need. Each resident receives an individualized
treatment plan which includes those groups deemed appropriate
by the treatment team.
Clinical services by our inter-disciplinary staff, provided three
nights a week. See our Sample
Schedule.
Other treatment
options for outpatient clients include the following:
•
Individual Therapy
• Family Therapy
• Psychiatric evaluation and follow up
• Nutritional counseling
• Equine Therapy
This level
of care is designed for those individuals who need additional support
and treatment, but live independently in the community. The program
will be designed on an individual basis, determined by the Clinical
Director. Each client will be scheduled for a maximum of 6 hours
of treatment per day. Groups are available from 9am until 7pm Monday
through Friday, and on Sundays. The program requires the individual
to have their own living arrangements and provisions for meals while
at Nova Luna. The number of days per week and the content of the
program will be determined at intake on an individual basis. See
our Sample Schedule.
Patients accepted
into the Day Treatment Program will each undergo a minimum 5-week
program in concert with a peer group, stratified by severity of
medical condition. The program will incorporate an initial psychological
consultation, resulting in a uniquely designed program to fit their
individual needs. Each patient will experience therapeutic modalities
such as Movement/Dance Therapy, Equine Therapy, Art Therapy, Massage
Therapy, Acupuncture, Emotional Freedom Technique and Sensory Integration.
They will work with specialists in each respected field to ensure
a safe environment for healing. From inception to conclusion, the
program will be medically authorized, supervised, and evaluated.
Continuous
contact during the course of the program is essential to motivate
patients and diminish a sense of isolation. Because of their medical
condition, eating disorder patients tend to be isolated, both socially
and emotionally. The peer group plays a fundamental role in breaking
down the isolation, and its members encourage one another's achievements.
The goals of the program are for patients to generate a sense of
control over their bodies, an awareness of healthy living and eating,
an experience of change, and the resources necessary to prevent
relapses.
The
following is a list of some of the groups offered in the Day Treatment
Program:
•

Once
the facilities are opened, Intensive Inpatient Treatment begins
with a complete evaluation by the patients’ psychiatrist,
physical examination by the primary care physician, and assessments
by the psychologist, RD, RN and the primary therapist. Baseline
laboratory studies and EKG's are performed on all patients. X-Ray
exams are performed, if clinically appropriate. Based on the results
of these examinations and evaluations, a comprehensive Master treatment
Plan is developed by a multi disciplinary team identifying the focus
of individual, group and specialized therapy.
Patients
will each undergo a minimum 30 day program in concert with a peer
group, stratified by severity of medical condition. The program
will incorporate an initial psychological consultation with Ms.
Villanti and, thereafter, each patient will have a uniquely designed
program that will integrate working with an exercise physiologist,
a nutritionist and a psychologist. From inception to conclusion,
the program will be medically authorized, supervised, and evaluated.
A comprehensive
approach to eating disorders is the only long-term remedy. A limited
focus on weight gain is a cosmetic solution with only temporary
results. The long-range proclivity for starvation requires that
all methods of treatment should be pursued under a physician's direction
through medical evaluation, nutritional guidance, exercise programs,
and behavior modification.
Professionally
supervised care provided to individuals who have progressed through
the inpatient, outpatient, or day treatment programs, to the point
in their recovery where they will benefit from a weekly support
program, geared toward maintaining their recovery progress.
Nova Luna
Center is dedicated to the prevention of eating disorders, and participates
in many community education programs. Learn more about our Community
